The Wine
The 00 Wines 2019 Pinot Noir Oh, the Places You'll Go! is inspired by the wise, old and knotted vines in Block 1D of the Hyland Vineyard, planted in 1972. Each twisted vine in this block has the personality of a Dr. Seuss drawing. His book Oh, the Places You’ll Go! is a classic tale of exploration that follows an unnamed protagonist on a journey of potential failure and ultimately success, not unlike the journey of the vintage. “Oh, the Places You’ll Go!” reminds us that in life and in winemaking, it’s “a great balancing act.”
The 2019 vintage was classically cool, which contributes to the balance, elegance and strikingly lifted tones of this year’s 00 Wines Pinot Noir Auction lot. The old vines of Block 1D of the Hyland Vineyard showcase both a purity of fruit and a strength of focus due to the deep roots and bright red Jory soil in this section of the vineyard. 00 Wines employs hand-crafted techniques to produce their single-vineyard Pinot noirs, including hand-snipping whole berries and fermenting in 500L hand-made terra cotta amphorae imported from Tuscany. Like the protagonist in Dr. Seuss’s classic story Oh, the Places You’ll Go! this wine is surefooted and confident, with a long, structured finish that will inspire you to dream of great places.
