The Wine

A profound diversity of life occurs in places of contrasting biomes. These interfaces share and cycle resources, creating sustainable and useful connections. Ecologists call this the “edge effect”; it frames our landscape and informs our observations of terroir. As the wild and curated edges grow, so too does the biodiversity and greater land mosaic of Abbott Claim. This single bottling comes from a precise selection of grapes grown on those particular edges—where vines meet a damp, truffle-infused forest, a field of winter wheat or an old oak woodland.

The Winery

Abbott Claim sits atop the Savannah Ridge, a protected ridgeline of ancient, fractured oceanic sandstone that built up at the bottom of the North-Pacific Ocean over the last 200 million years, uplifted onto the continent some 40–50 million years ago. Along its 170-acre boundary is a land rich in geological history, expansive skies, cooling fogs and dynamic microclimates, all curating an inspired landscape. We lean on this land to provide us with grapes and wine, while we care for its trees and nourish its grounds. Contributing our best selves to this relationship is our commitment and obsession; we’ve made Abbott Claim our home and garden, and wish for our wine to be telling these stories.
