The Wine
For the second year in a row we’ve selected our auction wine from a 25-year-old block of Pommard at Croft Vineyard. Founded in the 1980s by Chancy and Toni Croft, the vineyard is still farmed, organically, by the Croft family. In this bottling look for structure, tension and lift, with a supple midpalate and flavors that emphasize red fruit and spice.
The Winery
In 2020 Andrew Rich completed his 26th harvest in the Willamette Valley. For most of those vintages his winemaking explored, in part, the potential of Rhône grape varieties in the Pacific Northwest. But over the last half dozen years his focus has been squarely on Pinot noir. He began digging deeper with his launch of the “Elements” series in 2014, blending and bottling Pinot solely by soil type (primarily volcanic and marine sedimentary), trying to unearth what makes the Willamette Valley a singular source of Pinot noir.
