The Wine
Alfredo Apolloni grew up in a winemaking family in Northern Italy, where wine is made as it has been and as it should be—with tradition. It was here, as a child and young adult, he learned by doing: working in the fields and at the side of winemakers, and understanding that family tradition is infused in the best wines. When he started his own family, he and his wife Laurine knew they needed to raise their family in the shadow of the vines. They moved to Oregon, established their vineyard, and over time named the vineyard blocks for each of their three children. The individual sites offer distinctive characteristics and qualities and are true reflections of their namesakes. With varying slope, soil, elevation and clones, they produce Pinot noir unique to the cool climate and wind-blown soils of the northern end of the Willamette Valley. Like her namesake, Laura Olivia Apolloni, this wine expresses distinctive character and grace. Our selected barrel is from a single ferment from a vineyard block planted 17 years ago and nurtured on a gentle east-facing slope in the northernmost corner of the Willamette Valley. This wine is a manifestation of a moment in time and place, captured in the bottle. This unique Pinot noir reflects the warm growing season of 2016 and is single-clone Dijon 114, aged for 15 months in a second-fill Billon barrel. The wine has been carefully crafted and selected to represent a snapshot of a beautiful vintage and an example of winemaking tradition being passed down through generations.
The Winery
Laurine and Alfredo Apolloni established Apolloni Vinyeards in 1999. The vineyard is located in the northernmost region of the Willamette Valley, just 25 miles west of Portland. This provides a unique microclimate, tucked up against the Oregon Coast Range. Our estate offers Pinot noir, Pinot gris, Chardonnay and Pinot blanc. We also have an acre of Sangiovese and Nebbiolo, a nod to Alfredo’s Northern Italian roots and family winemaking tradition dating back over 150 years. Our vineyard and winery are LIVE certified with a focus on producing wines reflecting the distinctive characteristics of site, while showcasing the unique qualities of each vintage. Italian Roots. Oregon Grown.
