The Wine

In 1844, Jeremiah Rowland claimed the land that is now home to Belle Pente. 150 years later Jill and Brian O’Donnell planted the first Pinot noir vines for their estate vineyard. Jeremiah’s good judgement was soon confirmed when the second wine released from this young vineyard (our 1998 Estate Reserve Pinot Noir) was selected among the top Oregon wines of the vintage by Wine Spectator, Steve Tanzer, and Clive Coates. The 2019 Jeremiah’s Judgement is the first wine we’ve bottled with grapes sourced exclusively from this original 1994 planting since that watershed vintage 20 years ago. The prophecy is fulfilled!

The Winery

Belle Pente was established in 1992 when Jill and Brian O’Donnell purchased a historic seventy-acre farm in what is now the heart of the Willamette Valley’s Yamhill-Carlton AVA. The name means “beautiful slope,” evoking our steep hillside vineyard, and reflecting our commitment to making wines gently and naturally to capture the essence of this extraordinary site. The estate vineyard now includes twelve acres of mature Pinot noir vines densely planted in shallow marine sedimentary soils, and is dry-farmed using organic and regenerative practices. Our top wines are aged for 18 months in barrel, and gravity-bottled without fining or filtration.
