The Wine

Αγάπη μου (Agape Mou), my love. Together, tirelessly, arduously, crafting wines of beauty and depth, primal and ethereal, what a thrill it has been. Our love, watching the wine grow, guiding its evolution from grape to wine. Our passion: a reflection of the year the wine was born, the soils from which it grew, the climate that molded its individuality. This wine is 30% whole cluster, fermented with indigenous yeasts in 1.5-ton fermenters and aged sur lie 15 months. The flavors are full of ripe cherries, fresh strawberries, a hint of mocha, succulent and earthy, with graphite and river rock and polished tannins.

Owners, founders, winemakers, Athena Pappas and Stewart Boedecker were married in 2001, began making Pinot noir together in 2003 and continue their love—with each other, and with crafting Willamette Valley Pinot noir every year since. Athena runs the winery while Stewart works days and together this husband-and-wife winemaking team quietly crafts Pinot noirs hailed as “outstanding” and “some of the best wines the Willamette Valley has to offer” by critics and customers alike. Athena Pappas is first-generation Greek and agape, love in Greek, is the universal love of individuals and nature. Agape mou translate as My Love.

The WInery

Boedecker Cellars began as a 400-case winery in Carlton, OR in 2003. The couple, of neither legacy or riches, slowly and carefully grew in size and skill and built their urban winery in Northwest Portland in 2008. With their passion for hands-on winemaking, and love of the environment, they partnered with some of the very best vineyards in the Willamette Valley. Athena runs the winery and Stewart manages the vineyards, and even though they are married they are staunch and stubborn in their palates, as Athena likes rich, earthy, slightly dirty wines and Stewart leans toward delicacy, purity and refinement. “So they make their two core Pinot noir blends, both outstanding and in decent quantities. They also cost less than many comparable Oregon wines.” – Wine Spectator
