The Wine

Dobbes Family Estate The Bohemian Pinot Noir is a blend of the free-spirited and unpredictable 943 clone. Due to its variable berry size and inconsistent yield, the 943 clone often challenges those who venture to plant it. When given the attention it deserves, this unique clone results in incredibly deep, concentrated and complex flavors, reaching a balance that other clones require blending to achieve. We look forward to sharing this single-clone second-fill barrel, which was undoubtedly our finest in 2019, with you. The Bohemian celebrates the outliers, marvels and mavericks in the world for their exceptional contribution to life.

Unique. Exceptional. Untethered. The 2019 The Bohemian Pinot Noir tells a classic underdog story. Clone 943, with variable shape, size and yield, has had a delayed opportunity to play in the field. However, everything that makes it unusual is what makes it exceptional! Its berry size is inconsistent, with large and small sizes leading to different maturity. The small berries result in a concentrated, deep ruby color, but there’s surprisingly moderate tannin due to a lack of seeds in the smallest berries. The cluster shape is fairly open, a fortunate benefit to resist botrytis pressure. While some Pinot noir clones can yield up to five or more tons per acre in Oregon, Clone 943 in the same vineyard tops out around two and a half. In a world of supply and demand, 943 will always leave us wanting a little more, especially because it’s so intriguing. The 2019 Pinot Noir Bohemian is deeply colored and concentrated, with plush, smooth tannins and gorgeous dark fruit character. In 2019, three 943 blocks from different vineyards blended serendipitously to yield an exemplary wine that was the best barrel of the vintage. That one barrel was second-fill French oak that held the wine for 10 months, contributing subtle oak character that supports the wine instead of competing with varietal character. The Bohemian celebrates the outliers, marvels and mavericks in the world for their exceptional contribution to life.
