The Wine
It all began on the back of an envelope. When our family moved to Oregon in 1978, a neighbor offered my dad his extra Pinot noir vines. My dad accepted and when they bore fruit, he asked the neighbor, “Now what?” The neighbor replied, “Making wine is easy—there are only four steps.” My dad had the mail in his hand, so he jotted down the neighbor’s instructions on the back of an envelope. Forty years later, we are in our second generation and I make wines inspired by my late dad’s legacy and my daughter’s future. Back of the Envelope Pinot Noir is a nod to our origins.
Et Fille 2019 Back of the Envelope Pinot Noir combined what I love about two vineyards we work with—the bright red-fruit elegance of Fairsing Vineyard in the Yamhill-Carlton District and the deep, black-fruit-and-briar richness of La Pavillon Vineyard in the Dundee Hills—to create a wine that is meant to be complex, balanced and structured. It’s 20% whole cluster and aged for 18 months in 25% new French oak.

The Winery
Our story is about family. It is how we started, why we make wine and what we hope accompanies our wines at your dinner table. Et Fille, which means “and daughter,” was cofounded nearly 20 years ago by father and daughter winemakers and is now in its second generation, with daughter Jessica making elegantly complex wine inspired by her late father’s legacy and her daughter’s future. We are committed to sustainable winemaking, to our community and to diversity and equity.
