The Wine

At 860 feet above sea level, the Pump House Block perches upon 100 acres of volcanic soil on Eola-Amity Hills AVA’s preeminent Temperance Hill Vineyard. This celebrated vineyard is farmed organically by Dai Crisp. 2017 was the second vintage that the King family sourced Pinot noir from Temperance Hill Vineyard. Sourced from Clone 115 and Clone 943, this five-case lot was handcrafted by King Estate winemaker Brent Stone.

Note from Winemaker Brent Stone: It's an honor to make wine from one of Oregon's most coveted vineyards. The Pump House Block is a high elevation site and is just perfect for growing Pinot noir. We sourced Clone 115, which has rich fruit and weight, and also Clone 943, that produced very small berries and adds additional concentration and structure. Great balance overall. I get a lot of lush, dark fruit and earth in this wine, with some pretty floral aromatics.

The winery

King Estate was founded in 1991 on the principles of family, stewardship and tradition. Sitting upon 1,033 acres at the southern tip of Oregon’s Willamette Valley, King Estate is the largest Demeter-Certified Biodynamic vineyard in North America. With a third generation of family making wine on our mountain vineyard estate, King Estate remains family owned and farmed, dedicated to the highest standards in winemaking.
