the wine

“You’re on mute!”the inevitable shout we know all too well when someone tries to speak, and they are on mute. The word “muted” is often used to describe wine, and nobody is ever looking for a muted wine. Something that is unmuted and full of expression is much more desirable. Our 2019 Unmuted Pinot Noir comes from some of our favorite vineyards, each bringing its own personality to the “meeting” and collectively working well together. The wine has beautiful, natural acidity with delicate red fruit.

Aromas of dusty red fruit, wet slate and earth sweep across the nose with a burst of fresh acidity, umami and dried fruit coats the palate. Fine tannin structure and a refined palate give way to a long finish.

the winery

In 1998, Lynn and Ron Penner-Ash founded Penner-Ash Wine Cellars in the Northern Willamette Valley’s Yamhill-Carlton AVA. The pair built their LIVE-Certified sustainable gravity-flow winery surrounded by a 15-acre estate vineyard. The building seems to spring from the land itself—a reflection of the values, spirit and winemaking philosophy of Penner-Ash. Today, Lynn works side by side with winemaker Kate Ayres, who has been entrusted to carry forward the longstanding relationships with grower neighbors and friends that Lynn has fostered over the past twenty years. Penner-Ash wines reflect the Willamette Valley’s distinct textures, flavors and terroir, with beautiful elegance and balance.
