The Wine

The 2016 REX HILL auction wine is made with carefully chosen clusters from the most exciting block of our biodynamically farmed Jacob-Hart Estate Vineyard, Block VM. Composed completely of large volcanic rocks situated at the highest point within the vineyard, Block VM is made up of hard-fractured basalt, which allows rainwater to drain easily and retains vital heat from the sun. These factors result in smaller, intense, dark berries and deep, structured wines in barrel. A truly special wine, this is a wine of elegance and longevity with structure for long aging, an iron fist in velvet glove.

The Winery

The families of A to Z Wineworks bought REX HILL in 2007, reducing production almost 80% to focus on only the highest quality wines. Using hand-picked, hand-sorted grapes, small fermenters and small French oak barrels, REX HILL wines represent less than 3% of A to Z’s total production, the crème de la crème from sustainably farmed vineyards in the Willamette Valley. REX HILL is one of the original LIVE-certified wineries; owned vineyards are farmed following biodynamic principles resulting in authentic wines that are balanced, complex, rich and delicious. In Fall 2017, REX HILL was named the Robert Parker Extraordinary Winery in The Americas, “poised to become the next great thing” with the inaugural Under the Radar award.
