The Wine
Our Founders Cuvée Pinot noir is crafted with grapes picked from our Old Vineyard Block, our original vineyard site planted by our founders Susan Sokol Blosser and Bill Blosser back in 1971. Phylloxera took those own-rooted vines back in 2003, and this seven-acre site was replanted in 2004. We took cuttings from the original vines before we pulled them out, and those cuttings were the "bud wood" for the current planting, which are all grafted onto rootstock. The block is comprised of Pinot droit, Pommard UCD4, and Wädenswil 1A clones. 2014 was the first year since re-planting that we felt the vines produced a wine that could be bottled on its own. The wine has power coming from Pommard, some nice berry notes from the Gamay-like Pinot droit, and some wonderful acid from the Wädenswil.
