The Wine
In 2010 Tyson was at a trade tasting with the venerable Patty Green. She leaned over and said, “Hey, I may have a vineyard for you.” Patty recognized his passion for Chardonnay, and she was more of a Sauvignon Blanc gal. Thus, she generously offered to give us first dibs on her block of Chardonnay at Four Winds Vineyard (which eventually included the old-vine Pinot noir as well!). It was a classic Oregon handshake deal—one that led us to what is now our prized vineyard holding—and one that now seems curiously fated, as Tyson was named after Canadian folk artist Ian Tyson, who famously wrote and performed (with wife Sylvia) the song “Four Strong Winds.” Kismet!
This Pinot noir is made from the absolute best barrel of Block 1: a 30-year-old Pommard that’s feminine and powerful, gorgeously taut and bursting with fruit. The terroir is on full display as the 2019 vintage is perfectly transparent and expressive.

The Winery
Crowley began in 2005 with the aim to honor tradition, our mentors and the land. Premium Pinot noir was the focus from the start. Chardonnay was a passion project that became a lightning rod as Crowley joined a vanguard of producers taking the grape to new heights. With over 25 years of winemaking experience, Tyson Crowley strives to make the wines better every year and is inspired by his peers and the evolution of Oregon.
