The Wine

A single block of handpicked fruit harvested from our prestigious Dundee Hills estate vineyard sparked Lange Estate’s 2016 bottling. Planted in 1998, the Dijon clone 115 in our Legacy Block is known to play well with other clones in our striking cuvées but also stand out on its own as a complete single-clone wine. With classic Oregon character, this wine shows rich and supple tannins with an aromatic profile consistent with markers of 115 and a dark-fruited vintage, including earthy, savory undertones and concentrated notes of black cherries and blueberries. Cola and sassafras accentuate Dundee Hills baking spices framed within Lange’s classic structure and balanced but vibrant acidity. Drink now or cellar for a couple of decades. Your call.

The Winery

Don and Wendy Lange founded their winery in 1987 with 1,000 cases consisting of three varietals they still embrace today: Pinot noir, Pinot gris and Chardonnay. Production has increased to 19,000 cases annually—including more than 10 separate Pinot noir wines each year. First and second-generation winemakers Don and Jesse Lange have crafted a program of single-vineyard Pinot noirs that reach across a spectrum of microclimate and terroir, focusing on complex flavors, structure, texture and balance. To supplement production, the Langes purchase additional fruit through long-standing relationships with surrounding blue-ribbon vineyards. Lange Estate Winery is rooted in the esteemed Dundee Hills surrounded by panoramic views of Mount Hood and the North Willamette and Chehalem Valleys. Jesse also holds the title of General Manager and continues to play a role in the Oregon wine industry through board positions with the Oregon Pinot Camp, Dundee Hills Winegrowers Association and the Willamette Valley Wineries Association.
