The Wine
We established our penchant for geekdom at WillaKenzie Estate with previous vintages of our Willamette Valley Auction wine, so why stop with 2019? Remember those algebra classes you had a long time ago? Recall that term “rise-over-run” that is used to describe the slope of a line? Well, we do. We also feel that the term applies perfectly to the origin of this wine. Our 2019 Rise Over Run comes from the heralded Triple Black Slopes blocks on WillaKenzie Estate. It’s the steepest part of the WillaKenzie Estate property, with an aspect of nearly 45 degrees in some locations. The wine that was grown on Triple Black Slopes simply delivered the goods in 2019. It’s expressive, complex and intense and offers a great expression of the 2019 vintage.
The 2019 Pinot Noirs from the Willamette Valley are simply a great statement about why Pinot noir should be grown in the region. They are expressive, complex, energetic and balanced. Our 2019 Rise Over Run Pinot Noir is all that. It’s effusive, loaded with fresh raspberries and strawberries along with hints of herbal tea. On the palate, the wine is juicy and structured with great energy and power.

The Winery
WillaKenzie Estate is located in the Yamhill-Carlton AVA in the Northern Willamette Valley, Oregon. The winery was established in 1991 by Bernard Lacroute, who was inspired by the estate’s dynamic rolling hills that reminded him of his Burgundian roots. The estate is named for the marine sedimentary soil series on which the vineyard is planted, in keeping with tradition that great wines reflect a true sense of place. WillaKenzie Estate remains committed to its sustainable practices by preserving the biodiversity of the land, and is Oregon’s first LIVE-Certified winery (#001). In 2017, Erik Kramer joined WillaKenzie Estate, bringing over fourteen years of Willamette Valley winemaking experience. His deep, personal vision to craft some of Oregon’s best and most exciting Pinot noirs and Chardonnays has led to an array of great wines that honor the diverse WillaKenzie Estate.
