The Wine

The Sojeau Vineyard is perched at 650 feet on Murder Mountain, a hillside with an infamous past. Originally named Sojourner, the site overlooks the Valley and surrounding farmlands from its crown on the steep hill. The Van Duzer Corridor–facing aspect makes Sojeau one of our coolest sites, with acidity and aromatics favorably affected by the intense coastal winds. This wine is bursting with notes of wild raspberry and violet, layered with spices showing savory sarsaparilla, raw cocoa and tobacco. The palate is concentrated with sweet red cherry and bolete mushroom with delicate yet gripping tannins that lead to a vibrant and intensely mineral finish. Our 2019 Sojourner Pinot Noir is from our best barrel in the cellar, a beautiful combination of graceful fruit and a thoughtful winemaking hand. The transcendency of this site leaves no doubt as to why this vineyard has become a legend over time.

The Winery

For wife-and-husband team of Erica Landon and Ken Pahlow, 2008 marked the launch of their dream: the formation of Walter Scott Wines. In the spring of that year the two partners emptied their meager retirement accounts and used the funds to get started. Their first vintage was produced at Patricia Green Cellars, followed by two vintages at Evening Land where they worked alongside Dominique Lafon and began making Chardonnay, which has contributed significantly to their production. Today, Walter Scott has found a home in the Eola-Amity Hills and has earned a position among the great producers of Pinot noir and Chardonnay.
